Homeschool Using An Accredited Home School Program

Do you want to home school your children, but have staunch feelings that you are not qualified to be a teacher? Maybe your son or daughter is floundering in a large public school and, after investigating the subject, you feel strongly that a home school program would benefit them. The alternative might be an accredited home school program.

Through a course of studies downloaded on the computer or received in the mail, your child would be studying similar subjects he or she would have been assigned in a public school. An accredited homeschool program is generally a series of self study lessons with parental supervision and involvement.

One of my daughter's best friends suffered a long illness last year. She had to stay at home and in bed for over 5 months. During this time she was in a home study program. But her studies were assigned by the school and supervised by her teachers. My daughter's accredited home school program is different because even though she has interaction with some teachers, I have the supervision, not a school.

There are accredited homeschool programs for children of all ages. There are preschool programs all the way through high school. The cost of these schools are generally not expensive, so they can be used by folks rich and poor. And while children are receiving a structured education, they are doing it in comfortable surroundings with their mothers and fathers.

You might decide to use an accredited home school program for your children instead of sending them to public schools for a variety of reasons. Home schooling will help you and your children form strong bonds. In addition, you will have direct control over your children's learning because you don't have to follow the traditional school curriculum.

Is your public school some distance from your home? If so, using an accredited homeschool program can actually save you money on transportation (not to mention school lunches and clothing). Another thing you will love is the schedule. My daughter normally studies four to five hours a day, and we try to keep that consistently between 10 in the morning and 2 to 3 in the afternoon. But that isn't written in stone. If something comes up, if a need arises, that schedule can be adjusted to anytime during the day and any day of the week!

The number of families that choose accredited home school programs is growing each year. Perhaps it's because they want to protect their children from such things as drugs and gang violence. Or maybe, like me, they don't want to see their child lost in a crowded classroom. Whatever the case, I think it's a wonderful alternative and my daughter is prospering.

Are You Choosing The Accredited Best Home Schooling Programs?

Accredited home schooling programs provides an end to end education program for kids. However, most experienced home schoolers will prefer to pick and match what they believe to be the best combination of all.

There are several popular and respected accredited home schooling programs. The ones I will cover briefly here are Saxon, Center for Learning and Curriculum Associates.

Most are familiar with Saxon, one of the most reputable accredited home schooling programs available today. It is part of Harcourt Achieve and contains a whole variety of educational materials.

Saxon has been known to be very strong in Math education. It is well liked by many and is probably the best choice if you are looking for good Math programs for your home schooling curriculum.

The Center for Learning is just like the Saxon, both are well known and reputable home schooling programs. While Saxon excels in the Math education, the Center for Learning is good at English, Language Arts, Drama and Social Studies, including religious materials.

Finally, another favorite among the various home schooling programs is the popular Curriculum Associates. Their education materials focus on Reading, Language Arts and Math. They also have materials on test preparation, study skills and curriculum assessment.

As I mentioned before, most parents will not stick to any one of the home schooling programs. They will choose Reading from this publisher and Math from the other one. They often find what they like best through experimentation or from what their friends recommend through experience.

So, which of the accredited home schooling programs do you choose? If it were me, I would contact your State's Department of Education Home School contact person for a chat. This individual will know what home schooling programs with which students are having the most success.
